Third grade celebrates Poem in Your Pocket Day

Third grade was excited to participate in Poem in Your Pocket Day on April 24. (VIDEO.)

Here is a little information from the Academy of American Poets about the day’s history:

poeminpocketIn 2002, the Office of the Mayor, in partnership with the New York City Departments of Cultural Affairs and Education, initiated Poem in Your Pocket Day as part of the city’s National Poetry Month celebration.

In 2008, the Academy of American Poets took the initiative national, encouraging individuals around the country to join in and channel their inner bard. Each year on Poem in Your Pocket Day, schools, bookstores, libraries, parks, workplaces, and other venues ring loud with open readings of poems from pockets.

We selected eight poems to share with the MB community in various locations around campus. The students enjoyed thinking about how much people may enjoy reading them as they rolled them into little scrolls.

Happy Poem in Your Pocket Day!
