Celebrating Dr. Seuss

In between crackers and boxes of juice

Pre-primary hosts people and things both real and obtuse

the rat and opossum, the mouse and the moose,

the black-and-white big-honking Canada Goose,

with fluffy soft feathers all over its thorax

that tickle like whiskers plucked from the Lorax;

or things meant for counting (Thing 1 and Thing 2)

and friendly old Horton with big ears and big heart

that loves children playing (and growing their smarts)

through lessons and wonderful, world-spinning books

that seem to spring up wherever you look.

So make-believe grows as tall as a spruce

when fed by great stories from the Good Doctor, Seuss.
